Extra 20 minutes commuting per day 'equivalent to 19% pay cut' for job satisfaction

Evening Standard - 10/19/2017 - An extra 20 minutes commuting per day is equal to a 19 per cent pay cut for job satisfaction, a study has found.Researchers examined the impacts of travelling to work on the wellbeing of more than 26,000 employees in England over a five-year period.They found every extra minute of commuting time reduces both job and leisure time satisfaction, increases strain and worsens mental health.Lead investigator Dr Kiron Chatterjee, an associate professor in travel behaviour at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), said increase in pay balances out the extra commuting time.
