Supreme Court will decide constitutionality of consumer watchdog bureau
The Washington Post - 10/18/2019 - Robert Barnes - The Supreme Court on Friday said it will consider whether the structure of the watchdog Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created by Congress in 2010 is unconstitutional, something the Trump administration and even the bureau’s director say they now believe. Conservatives have long contended that the protection given to the bureau’s director, who cannot be fired by the president without cause, violates the separation of powers. The CFPB, created in part by consumer advocates such as Elizabeth Warren — now a Democratic member of the Senate representing Massachusetts — and Congress have defended its independence.
