US News and World Report - 7/25/2017 - Andrew Soergel - After 18 months of slogging through the single worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, the U.S. in June 2009 finally limped out of the Great Recession and began what has simultaneously become one of the longest and most disappointing recoveries in modern history. Just a few weeks ago, the current recovery reached its eighth birthday – a rarity for modern economic growth cycles. The average post-World War II recovery has only lasted about 58 months, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. The current recovery is now in its 97th.
